| EXPERIENCE: |
Colello Consulting, LLC (Nov 2002 - Present)
Lead Process Automation Engineer
Provided automation design and support for the following projects:
Pfizer Inc., Groton, CT
Global Manufacturing
- Contributed DeltaV control modules and graphics to Pfizer's global automation solutions library. The items in the library are used for automation projects at Pfizer sites worldwide. Tasks included gathering information from customers, writing functional specifications, code design, code implementation, writing design specifications, writing test protocols, and implementing test protocols.
- Developed process specifications for electronic work instruction (EWI) phases.
Groton Manufacturing
- Implemented control strategies for units in an organic synthesis production facility using both Emerson (Fisher) DeltaV DCS and PROVOX DCS. Completed tasks under change control in a qualified environment.
- Investigated automation issues surfaced by the production team.
- Initiated an alarm reduction strategy to coincide with a plant-wide initiative.
- Designed control modifications to prepare for upcoming product campaigns.
- Prepared batch control procedures for product campaigns.
- Developed a program (in Perl) to automatically search DVOP (DeltaV Operate for PROVOX) spooler files based on user-specified search strings and time information.
- Served as the administrator of an OSI-PI data collection system, assisting in the initial design and configuration. The system collects continuous, alarm, event, and batch data from three separate control systems.
- Designed and configured SQL queries for alarm and event data collection in PI, using their RDBMS interface.
- Developed many programs (in Visual Basic) to manage and interact with the PI system, including one to ensure uninterrupted data collection during console updates.
- Planned and implemented system decommissioning procedures to coincide with the plant closure schedule.
New England Controls, Mansfield, MA
- Developed DeltaV control modules, phases, and batch entities for a Microfiltration Skid.
Automation and Control Specialists (May 1997 - Nov 2002)
Senior Process Automation Engineer
Provided automation design and support for the following projects:
Pfizer Inc., New York City, NY
- Designed control modifications to a wastewater neutralization and stripping system using an Emerson (Fisher) PROVOX DCS, adding several new wastewater tanks and a new stripper to the wastewater management area. Developed a strategy to have the existing vessels interact with the new vessels.
- Designed control modifications to an end of line (EOL) system using an Emerson (Fisher) PROVOX DCS. The vent header from an existing building was connected to the plant-wide EOL system. Automation changes were required in the existing building, to allow the vessels to acquire the EOL, and in the existing EOL system, to accommodate the new vessels and new instrumentation.
- Participated in the automation for a new addition to an existing building. Automated a Guedu dryer, including the hydraulic functions, using Emerson (Fisher) PROVOX DCS. Provided functional specifications, design specifications, and test protocols for the newly created operations and FSTs.
- Each of the New York City projects was designed for the Pfizer plant in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. Travel to the site was necessary to attend initial design meetings, supervise implementation, and support start-up.
Pfizer Inc., Groton, CT
- Designed DeltaV phases, based on manufacturing requirements. Wrote and executed qualification documents. Provided support for several product startups using new DeltaV code.
Pfizer Pharmaceuticals LLC, Barceloneta, Puerto Rico
- Designed major modifications to a solvent recovery system, generated control strategies for a new process scrubber, and configured an Emerson (Fisher) PROVOX DCS to implement the revisions.
- Participated in the qualification of an Emerson (Fisher) DeltaV DCS for an automation upgrade of a manually operated process building. Provided design solutions for coding errors discovered during the execution of the qualification protocols.
Merck & Co., Manufacturing Division, West Point, PA
- Implemented control strategies for multiple units of a biotechnology-manufacturing complex using an Emerson (Fisher) PROVOX DCS. Provided automation shift coverage for manufacturing campaigns and represented the automation department at daily production meetings. Completed automation change requests in compliance with change control procedures and executed Operational Qualification test protocols. Gained experience with validation procedures, RECIPE Manager, OWP configuration, ENVOX database, SQL, OSI-PI, Unit Operation and FST configuration and maintenance. Achieved working knowledge of ENSTRUCT for maintenance and configuration. Participated in Merck GMP training.
